Deep breaths. It's all going to be perfectly fine. There's no crazy person trying to shoot you this time. Calm down...
Ding Dong!
"Coming! Hold on!" Victoria quickly packed her messenger bag and pulled her cap over her head. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door.
"Hey Vic," Alex smiled. He wore his regular jeans, but this time his hair was a dark brown.
"What's with the hair?" He ran his hand through it, confused, then smiled in realization.
"This is my natural hair color. I have temporary dye everyday, because it's cheep, and you know..." he rubbed the nape of his neck, "it looks awesome? Kind of?" She giggled. Her body relaxed slightly and the stress levels dipped just a slight bit.
"Sure," she stepped towards him, a baby step, "I like this look better though." He rolled his eyes and brought out a bouquet of flowers, which she hadn't noticed until now.
"I got these. Chad said you liked roses, so..." he handed them over, "Here."
"Thanks, I guess..." She gave a grateful smile and stepped out. Her blue dress swished as she walked. His eyes were glued on her as she strutted over to the car. "Like what you see?" she smirked.
"Hell yes." He grinned. "You're ready to go, it looks like?"
"Uhh..." she hesitated, "yeah." She put on a determined look and nodded. Alex opened the car door and she hopped in.
After a few minutes of driving, Alex said, "No one's going to get drunk."
"What?"
"Well, you look nervous. Trust me, no ones going to get drunk on you. There aren't any alcoholic drinks at the party." She just sat quietly, not saying anything. "Hey, is something wrong?"
"Nah, just... I have a fear of cars."
"What? You got in Chad's car though..."
"Only Chad's car..."
"But... Why?" She shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
"My Dad got shot in a car when I was little... We were driving to a party at Chad's place. Chad was the person who comforted me after I found out he passed away." His face went to a panic.
"Wait, so this ride must bring back way too many bad memories, right?"
"Yeah, but I need to face them sometime... Today I'm trying to do that. I can't avoid it forever." The car jerked as they swerved to steer away from an oncoming car.
"Concentrate on the road you idiot, and stop worrying about me! I'll be fine."
"Right." He looked intently on the road ahead of him, but it was clear his mind was elsewhere. The rest of the ride was silent and it left both of them tense and uneasy.

"We're here Vic," Alex said, pulling up to the driveway. She sighed and got out, her knees shaking just enough to be noticed. As they walked towards the door, he grabbed for her hand, and she gladly took it. "I'm sorry Vic."
"It's fine."
"No, I mean I'm really sorry. I should've known."
"You couldn't have known, smart one," she chuckled, rolling her eyes. "It's not like your related to the guy
who killed my Dad."
"Actually... I am."
***
"Vic, wake up!" The world spun and her vision was blurry. "Victoria, please..." Alex... Pendragon.
"You idiot, why didn't you tell me she was nervous about it?!"
"I'm sorry Chad, she said she wanted to push through with it."
"You god damn moron."
Her eyes fluttered open and her hand instinctively went to his face. Hard. Chad stopped, took it in, then burst out laughing.
"That's what I'm talking about!" he yelled laughing. "You totally deserved that dude."
"Shoot, sorry," she mumbled. "Ouch, my head."
"Yeah, falling over fainting will probably do that to you. Probably." Chad winked. His personality switch was normal to her; one second he'd be mad as heck at someone, then super teasing and sarcastic the next. "Hey, at least you're not in a coma, like the dude in that one online story I read. Got backstabbed and everything."
"It still hurts Chad."
"What do you want me to do? Cut out your brain so it stops hurting?"
"No, just... get me an Advil or something." He bowed and winked.
"Coming right up princess."
"Oh shut up!" she called after him. A few seconds later, he comes back holding a first aid kit, still laughing.
"What... Why?"
"Advil should be in here somewhere, right? This thing has everything."
"Give it here you nut job." The laugh had to be contagious, because by the time she found the Advil, all of them were laughing hysterically.
