Victoria smiled as she walked out of the room. A few seconds later, Alex followed.
"What was that?" He stared. She smirked, chuckling to herself.
"You may be a player, but you're far from a bad boy." He shrugged.
"I like to keep my grades up and my record clean." She sighed, pulling out her hair tie, and shaking out her hair. It dropped past her shoulders with a little wave at the end, her bangs flipped to the right side of her face. Alex gaped. She doesn't look half bad... Wait, no, shut up. She's Chad's friend.
"So, with your 'clean record'", she made air quotes, "I'm guessing this is your first ditch?" He nodded, almost feeling ashamed. Why do I feel like ditching is something I should do? I'm the goody two-shoes, not the bad boy! "Then I'll make it so you never forget," she winked. "C'mon!" Grabbing his hand, she dashed down the hallway. He had to actually work to keep up.
"Are you usually this energetic?" he asked, panting. She let out a high pitched laugh.
"No, but you're a guy, you should be able to keep up, at least, if not surpass me!" He put on a look of determination and dashed after her.

"Alright, phase one," she whispered as they neared the gate, "get past the guards." Alex had a worried look plastered on his face.
"How--"
"Leave it to me," she said, winking. They walked casually up to the guards, but she constantly tugged on his hand to go faster. As they neared, she whispered harshly, "Play along, play boy."
"Hey, where are you two going?" the buff guard stood in front of the gate, folding his arms intimidatingly.
"I'm sorry sir, but my mom just texted me and my boyfriend," she tagged in his hand again, "saying we have to meet her at the hospital. I can take my car--" He rolled his eyes.
"I've heard that one before, trust me. No skipping class allowed, miss." Victoria's eyes started to water, and her shoulders shuddered as tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Sir, my mom is suffering from cancer..." she stopped as her whole body shook.
Immediately, he put his arms around her. He felt so awkward. He had never held a girl in his arms before. Its only been hand holding... and that's it. He'd never had his first kiss, and this was the first time to hug anyone other than his mom. The guard sighed.
"Alright, but give me your names before you go out." She looked up at him with grateful eyes.
"Thank you so much sir... Names are Valerie Smith, and Conner Redwood." The guard jotted them down and waved them off.
"Good luck to your mother!"
"Thank you!" As soon as they left his sight, she burst out in hysterics. "That was hilarious!"
"That was some good acting too," he smirked. "Use that on the boys you date?" She rolled her eyes.
"I'm not interested in guys."
"Girls then?"
"No!" She hit her forehead in frustration. "I meant I don't want to date right now, not that I'm lesbian, geez!" He chuckled.
"Okay, so now what?" She immediately grinned.
"Phase two: check up on the boys." He raised a brow.
"Others who are ditching too?" A thought came into his mind. "Is Chad among them?"
"Shhh!" She looked around. "I'll introduce you to them okay? Get in the car and we'll talk on our way there, alright?" He hesitated. "Okay, I'll make it simpler. Car equals answers." Alex rolled his eyes and hopped in.
She put on her seatbelt and adjusted her hat in the mirror. "So, I'm in the car. Where's the answers?" She gave me a look of disbelief.
"Have you even checked the car?" He looked around for the first time. In the visor, a piece of paper was sticking out. Flipping it down, he gave a little gasp.
"These are people in your friend group!" he said. "Yet, why do they have different names?"
"Code names. Mine is Valerie Smith. You'll need one too," she smiled, "Conner Redwood."
***
"Well..." the car rumbled, "I guess I don't really have a choice, huh?" She smiled.
"Nope, not really, but hey!" she tapped the top of his head, "You did pretty well for a play boy."
"Well, I live to please," he winked.
"Yeah, please yourself." She suddenly laughed. "That sounds dirty, although both are probably accurate."
"N-No way!" She smirked.
"I'm just joking... a bit." Alex turned his back to her.
"You're mean."
"Only as mean as you make me out to be," she said in a sing-song voice. "Besides," she parked the car, "I'm not your typical girl."
"Yeah, I noticed. You're just sexy and intimidating..." he teased.
"No, not only that." He faltered. "I'm a tomboy." He laughed.
"Well of course, that too." His mind raced. For some reason, he wanted to see her again after today. "Hey, there's a party at Cha-- I mean, Peter's house tomorrow. You have got to come." Oops... a bit demanding there. She laughed, nonetheless.
"Sure thing, play boy. I'll be there."
"Awesome." Alex gave her a weak smile. He shouldn't be like this! This was Chad's best friend here! There's no way... I can't go after her, he'd kill me!
"Here come the guys. Look presentable now."
***
"Hey, Valerie! How's it going?" Chad kissed her on the cheek. He let his gaze fall on Alex and a look of betrayal spread quickly upon his face. "Who's this?"
"Oh, this is Conner. I basically forced him to come with me, don't worry." His face got red with frustration.
"Victoria Westfall, I told you to stay away from him!" The other guys gave silent looks at each other. Victoria, however, was unfazed.
"You're not my older brother, so I can do whatever I want! Its not like I'm going after him, I just want to show him who's boss! And my name is Valerie Smith, not Victoria Westfall." Chad looked outraged.
"Valerie, I am the closest to an older brother you will ever get, so you'd better believe me when I tell you this guy is up to no good!"
"He's never even ditched before, he's harmless!"
"He's a player, you shouldn't be seen with him! The bullying will get worse!"
"I don't give a damn about the bullying. Those people just need to get a life."
"You're bullied?" Alex questioned. Chad stared at him.
"Stay out of this, Conner." I stared back at him.
"I just want to make sure she's not getting hurt by some assholes who can't get a life."
"Geez, I'm fine. Both of you, quit worrying about me! I'm a mature girl, alright? I can look after myself." Victoria said, waving her hands around. One of the guys put a hand on her shoulder and faced Chad with a stern look.
"Yeah, Pete, I think your overreacting. I mean, you used to be a player back in--"
"Shut up."
"Let me finish and control your damn temper! You blow up with barely any reason behind it." He walked up to him. "You're not the boss here Chad. I care about Vic just as much as you do, but I'll only get mad if something actually happens. You warned her, isn't that enough already?" Chad glared at him uncomfortably. He looked as if he was about to tear his hair out.
"Fine." He then turned to glared at Alex. "You'd better not break her heart Conner, or you're toast."
***
"Hey," Alex ran to catch up with her. "Hey, you still coming to the party tomorrow?" Victoria just stared blankly ahead. "Vic?"
"I don't like being treated like a kid. I can take care of myself." His eyes softened.
"Vic, you're stronger than this. Don't let them get to you."
"Don't," she glared at him, "tell me what to do." He put his hands up in surrender.
"Okay, just a suggestion." He peered over at her. "You are coming to the party though, right?"
"Of course I am. I don't say yes, then go back on my word." Alex let out a breath of relief.
"Good. I'll see you there, okay?" He gave off a smile. "I don't think they'd appreciate my company, so I think I'll just make my way back."
She nodded silently and he made his way out. "Wait, Alex." He stopped and turned. "Thanks." He smiled and shrugged.
"No problem. I'll see you tomorrow," he said, turning and catching a cab.
